Memorial Day Weekend at Bar-K

Over Memorial Day Weekend we took our annual trip to Bar-K Wrangler Camp for trail riding and camping.  This year was probably the coolest and wettest weather we’ve had since we have been going there.  The rain made the trails pretty muddy and while I enjoy riding, rainy/muddy conditions aren’t my favorite.   Jonesy on the other hand loved it!  We took 3 horses:

3-year-old Billybilly

4-year-old Jackjack

And 8-year-old KatkatJonesy likes to take a couple of young horses to Bar-K because it is a good experience for them.  It exposes them to new things on the trail.  It teaches them to watch their feet, to go through belly deep water, and that it’s ok to get their feet muddy.  Plus, the more miles they have under saddle, the better the horse.  The “veteran” horse us usually for me to ride. 🙂

One of the best parts about camping out is cooking over the campfire.firepitOne of our favorite campfire meals is just a simple foil packet dinner.  I just toss chopped potatoes, onions, peppers and smoked sausage into the foil and cook it over the fire until the potatoes are tender.  It’s really yummy!foil dinnerIt was another fun time despite the cooler than normal temps and rain.  We alway enjoy hanging out with our “Bar-K” friends and look forward to next time.

Making Memories: Bar-K 2014

Whew!  I finally got a chance to sit down and write a blog.  It’s been a busy couple of weeks.

We took a week off and went to one of our most favorite places on earth!bar-k sign

This is a little primitive camp site with lots of amazing horse trails.  We try to make it down there a couple times a year.  This time we invited 5 of the young people that work for us (crazy, huh?).  As it turned out only 2 of them were able to go.  😦

Some other friends came down also, and on Sunday we all took a long ride to a cave.

Everyone made it out alive…although I had my doubts for awhile.  This was WAY out of my comfort zone!

There are several placed we cross the Swan Creek while on the trails.  We found a spot this year to “swim” the horses.  What a blast!  It was especially nice since it was about 85*.(To see the video please go to Crooked Brand Ranch Facebook page).

It’s so peaceful and relaxing here…that’s why we love is so much.  The trails are so beautiful.  Here, see for yourself.bar-k trailbar-k trail2swan creek

Another fun part of camping is cooking over the fire pit.  There is just something about food cooked over an open flame!  So Good! bar-k cookingCan you just smell those steaks cooking?!

I feel so very blessed to be able to spend a week in nature with my hubby, good friends, and the best horses around!   Oh, and let’s not forget Moe the Ranch dog!  Even he likes to relax!moe at bar-k We had a little vehicle trouble this trip,  even that inconvenience (as frustrating as it was) was all a part of the adventure.  For me, these trips are all about making memories

Thanks for reading, be blessed,
