Last Sunday after church Jonesy and I went to town to pick up some more veggies for our garden. It’s finally getting warm so we decided it would be a good day to work in the garden. We brought home a dozen tomato plants, green peppers, yellow peppers, banana peppers and jalapeno peppers, and lastly zucchini. As I told you in my post Dirty Hands the first thing we do is to measure the rows and run the string from one end to the other to keep them straight. All the tools are kept in this garden shed. I love my garden tool shed. Everyone asks me if we have a real outhouse! lol One of the best parts of gardening is how peaceful and calming it can be. Jonesy had to leave to deliver a tractor that we sold, so I was by myself for awhile. I so enjoyed the sound of the breeze blowing through the trees, the birds singing as if just for me, the solitude. It is so peaceful, there is time to slow down, to think and to pray. It is almost indescribable. After getting the peppers, tomatoes and zucchini planted I spent time weeding the lettuce we had planted previously. The lettuce is up and looking pretty good.
On Monday afternoon we were able to get the corn, and green beans put out. We have this nifty contraption that plants the seed for us. We also added cucumbers that are planted in small mounds. When I asked Jonesy why they are planted in mounds, he said because that’s the way his mom always did it! 🙂 Even though my muscles are screaming, I love time spent in the garden. I can’t wait until everything begins to produce good. One thing I have always done when gardening is take my shoes off. I have to garden in my bare feet! There is just no other way for me! As you can imagine I am a pedicurist nightmare! Here’s to Dirty Hands and Barefoot Gardening! 🙂
Love, love, love your garden shed! I do love the peace and quiet in the garden too. Happy gardening!

Your garden looks so good already! I’m still waiting for Minnesota weather to cooperate enough for me to transplant things outside. Barefoot – thumbs up. 🙂

You are much greener than we are. I hope I can start planting soon, but still cold here!

Lori,
I am visiting from the County Fair Blog Hop. Glad you are getting some gardening in and having fun. It’s been to cold to do much gardening in northwest South Dakota. I am a container gardener and haven’t even prepared my containers (old tractor rims). I have ideas to add to my current containers, but I refuse to garden in snow pants and my winter coat. Sounds like the next few days will be more spring like.

Hi Robyn,
We visited South Dakota last summer and it was amazing. We were there over 4th of July and the nights were still cool.
Old tractor rims sound like they would make great garden containers! I agree, barefoot gardening would be much better than snow pants gardening! 🙂
Thanks for stopping by my blog!
